Foodstuffs are materials that enable humans to grow and are able to maintain their bodies and reproduce. Foodstuffs generally consist of chemical substances, either naturally occurring or synthetically, in various combinations and which play an important role in life, such as water and oxygen.

Foodstuffs consist of four main components, namely carbohydrates, proteins, fats, water, and their derivatives. In addition, food ingredients are also composed of inorganic components in the form of mineral content, and other organic components in relatively small amounts, such as vitamins, enzymes, emulsifiers, acids, antioxidants, pigments, and flavor components. The amount of these components varies in each food ingredient, depending on the composition, hardness or texture, taste, color, and value of the food.

By studying Learning Activity 1 regarding the notion of food ingredients, you are expected to be able to understand the main components of foodstuffs, their supporting components, and the classification of foodstuffs based on their ease of damage.
